Slow Letters

Terms of Use

Last updated: [EFFECTIVE DATE]

Slow Letters is run by [OPERATOR NAME] ("we", "us"). These terms are the agreement between you and us. By creating an account you agree to them, to the Guidelines and to the Privacy Policy.

Who can use Slow Letters

You must be 18 or older. Each person may have one account. We may refuse or close an account that doesn't meet these conditions.

Your account

You sign in with a code we send to your email address. Keep that inbox secure, because anyone who can read it can sign in as you. You are responsible for the letters sent from your account.

You choose a pen name, and it is the only name other people see. A pen name must not include contact details or pretend to be another real person.

How letters work

  • Letters are plain text. You can't attach photos or files, and letters can't include links or contact details.
  • Every letter takes several hours to arrive. Once sent, it can't be edited or taken back.
  • A letter to a stranger goes to another member we choose. We can't promise that every letter finds a reader, or that any letter gets a reply.
  • After you write to someone, you can write to them again once they have replied.

Your letters

You keep the rights to what you write. You give us permission to store your letters, deliver them and show them to the person they were sent to. This permission is worldwide, non-exclusive and free of charge, and it exists only so we can run the service.

A letter you send becomes the recipient's to keep, as a paper letter would. It stays with them even if you later block them or delete your account.

Letters you receive are private correspondence. Don't publish them or share them in a way that identifies or harms the person who wrote them.

Rules

You agree to follow the Guidelines. In particular, you must not:

  • include links, email addresses, phone numbers or social handles in a letter or pen name;
  • harass, threaten or demean anyone;
  • send sexual content;
  • ask for money, advertise or sell anything;
  • pretend to be someone else;
  • do anything unlawful, or encourage others to;
  • use scripts, bots or extra accounts to get around limits or blocks;
  • try to access another person's account or interfere with the service.

Blocking and reporting

You can block anyone you correspond with. They are not told, and you won't receive their letters again. You can also report a letter to us.

We do not read or screen letters before they are delivered, and we can't promise to act on every report. We may look at reported letters, and we may suspend or close accounts that break these terms.

Staying safe

The people you write to are strangers. We don't verify anyone's identity, and age is self-declared. Don't share details that identify you, and never send money to someone you met here. If you believe you are in danger, contact your local emergency services.

Closing your account

You can delete your account at any time from the You page. The Privacy Policy explains what is deleted and what remains.

We may suspend or close your account if you break these terms, if the law requires it, or if we stop offering the service.

The service

Slow Letters is provided as it is. We may change it, interrupt it or end it, and we don't promise it will always be available or free of errors.

Our responsibility to you

To the extent the law allows:

  • we give no warranties about the service beyond what these terms say;
  • we are not responsible for what other members write or do;
  • we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses;
  • our total liability to you is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the past 12 months and [LIABILITY CAP].

Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't be limited by law, or takes away rights you have as a consumer where you live.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. If a change is significant, we will tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect. If you keep using Slow Letters after that, you accept the new terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of [GOVERNING LAW], and disputes go to the courts of [JURISDICTION]. If you are a consumer, you keep any protections that the law of your own country guarantees you.
